TORONTO, November 15, 2024- Park Street Education, a registered charity dedicated to closing the equity gap in education for underserved youth across Canada, has received a $25,000 grant from ScotiaRISE to help expand its High School Support Programs. ScotiaRISE is Scotiabank's social impact initiative to help young people thrive by funding programs that support high school participation and education.
The funding will enhance Park Street Education's virtual tutoring program for 25 underserved high school students, helping them build motivation, academic skills and confidence. This partnership aims to reach more youth in need, ensuring they have the tools and resources to succeed in their educational journeys.
"We're excited to collaborate with ScotiaRISE to broaden our impact on high school students," said Sam Leach, Co-Founder and Curriculum Director at Park Street Education. "This funding will enable us to increase personalized tutoring sessions and create targeted group enrichment programs for students who need additional support."
“Providing access to tutoring support not only helps students achieve high school graduation but also builds a strong foundation for their transition to post-secondary education. Through ScotiaRISE, we are pleased to support Park Street Education’s High School Supports Program and contribute to students’ long-term success,” says Jason Charlebois, Regional Senior Vice President Toronto Region, Scotiabank.
The Expanding High School Supports Program will provide weekly individual tutoring sessions and monthly group learning opportunities focused on study skills, stress management, and post-secondary planning. The program will run during the 2024-2025 academic year, serving an estimated 25 students from underserved communities, newcomer families, and those connected with Children's Aid societies.
Since 2020, Park Street Education has supported over 1,000 kids, with 87 per cent reporting increased motivation and 75 per cent improving in foundational subjects like reading and math.
