TORONTO, Nov 8, 2024 – Park Street Education, a registered charity dedicated to closing the equity gap in education for underserved youth, has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the CIBC Foundation. This funding will support Park Street's Diversifying STEM after-school program, which aims to foster a love of learning in STEM subjects among at-risk youth in grades 4-12.
CIBC aims to create a world without limits to ambition. We’re committed to removing barriers that all too often stand in the way of success for many students from underserved communities," said Ronan Ryan, Executive Director of CIBC Foundation. "The Diversifying STEM after-school program will not only improve access to education and careers in STEM, but will empower the next generation of leaders and changemakers to make a lasting impact on the world.
The Diversifying STEM program is a 10-week virtual course designed to complement school studies, teaching STEM concepts through the lens of diversity. The program includes weekly small group sessions, guest speakers, and mentorship opportunities with STEM professionals.
"We're deeply grateful for this generous contribution from the CIBC Foundation," said Sam Leach, Co-Founder and Curriculum Director of Park Street Education. "With this grant, we can provide 40 underserved students with the opportunity to engage in top-tier STEM education, sparking potential interest in future careers in these essential industries."
Park Street's virtual approach removes geographical barriers, making the program accessible to students across Ontario. Since its founding in 2020, Park Street Education has supported over 1,000 children through various educational programs. Park Street partners with trusted, local grassroots organizations like Big Brothers Big Sisters chapters and Children's Aid Societies, to reach youth who can benefit most from their services.
