Diversifying our Booklists: Announcing Our New Partnership with Tusome Books

Park Street Education is proud to announce our official partnership with Tusome Books!

Based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Tusome Books' goal is to bring stories and experiences that seem unfamiliar and out of reach closer to readers. They celebrate a variety of authors and voices connected to Africa, Asia (Asia-Pacific, East and West Asia) and Canadian Indigenous peoples. Tusome Books also carries books written by and/or including themes affecting other underrepresented communities such as people with disabilities, chronic illnesses and LGBTQ+.

At Park Street Education, we aren’t only aligned with this goal, but think that diverse authors, inclusive storytelling and representation are fundamental to the way we educate our students.

Through this partnership, we will be hosting virtual reading events for children of all ages, with our first event coming up next week! These facilitated, intentional readings are for readers seeking to reduce their own intrinsic biases. Encouraging young readers to widen their scopes of reading enables them to learn about each other, eliminating biases and stereotypical thinking at an early age.

Upcoming Kids Event: Virtual Reading

Together, Park Street and Tusome Books are proud to create space for young readers to explore literature by and/or about underrepresented people in our quest to contribute to a more accepting and loving community.

On September 29, 2021, we’re hosting a virtual reading workshop from 6 PM to 7:30 PM EST where we will explore ‘This Place: 150 Years Retold’. This event is ideal for readers from Grade 5 to Grade 8.

It will be a fun and educational time. We can’t wait to see you there!
